Repsol have commemorated their 50th anniversary in the world of motorsport with various initiatives in 2019. On Tuesday they brought an end to the year with an event that aims to bring their passion to the general public: The energy company, in collaboration with the Agencia EFE news agency, inaugurated a photo exhibition in honour of the most emblematic sporting moments of the last half-century.
The exhibition in Madrid’s Serrano Street opens with an image of Ángel Nieto being congratulated by then-king Juan Carlos I on his ’12+1′ title. There is a focus on the alliance between Repsol and Honda in the Motorcycle World Championsip; Mick Doohan’s dominance, the breakthrough of Alberto Puig and Álex Crivillé in the premier class in the 1990s; Repsol’s Formula 1 appearance with Pedro Martínez de la Rosa; and the Rally Dakar in Africa and South America. These are just some of the moments displayed on the streets of the Spanish capital during the holidays.
Other snapshots from more recent times include those of Toni Bou’s 26th Trial world title, the careers of Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa, and current MotoGP World Champion with Repsol Honda, Marc Márquez.
The exhibition, entitled “Repsol, 50 años en el deporte del motor” can be visited through to Monday, December 23rd. This would not have been possible without the help of the Economy, Innovation and Employment Department of the Madrid City Hall, along with the District of Salamanca.
