García claims first points at Mugello

Sergio García had a solid race on his first visit to Mugello, riding in a second group that was barely a second from the front.

Alonso López was constantly between 12th and 8th, until a knock from another rider on Lap 8 took him out of the race.

Ryusei Yamanaka made another wildcard appearance for the team and, starting from 26th position, crossed the line 17th, just 108 thousandths of a second off the points.

2019 Italian GP Moto3 – Rider statements

Sergio García

This weekend has been very positive. We have been able to improve steadily in every session and have always had fast times. That is a step forward compared to the opening GPs of the season.

I’m very happy about the race we had, although it was a bit difficult for me to keep up, because I didn’t have much grip with my rear tyre. The important thing is that I finished the race and I took my first points in the World Championship.

Alonso López

I didn’t make a great start, but I managed to keep same position I had on the grid. I managed to overtake a couple of riders, but the front group got away from us. We were trying to catch up with them again and on the brakes I was hit, going to ground.

These things happen in races, but we can take away a positive from this weekend: We maintained a good pace and we are getting closer and closer.

Ryusei Yamanaka

My feeling in the first practice sessions was quite good, but yesterday I struggled to take another step forward and today in the race it was difficult to keep up with the pace of the World Championship riders. In the end I finished seventeenth, which is not bad, because I almost finished in the points.

We lost contact with the first group and, when Kornfeil escaped from our group, I wasn’t able to stick with him. It’s a shame, because then it became difficult to fight with others in the same group. We have to learn and improve in practice, to be a little higher up in the race.
