The qualifying sessions for the Australian Grand Prix ended with another pole for Jorge Martín, the fastest rider on the MotoGP grid, on a track where there were still puddles after morning rain. Marc Márquez was behind him, setting the best time both on the first day of practice for the Australian Grand Prix and in Saturday’s Free Practice, which took place on a wet track. The front row of is completed by the Aprilia of Maverick Viñales.

Marco Bezzecchi, Pecco Bagnaia and Raúl Fernández, who came into Q2 via Q1, qualified on the second row. Behind them will be Franco Morbidelli, Álex Márquez and Álex Rins, on the third row, with the fourth formed by Enea Bastianini, Brad Binder and Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Luca Marini just misses out Q2

A great performance from Luca Marini on Saturday at Phillip Island saw the Repsol Honda Team rider place fourteenth in Free Practice and nearly manage to get out of Q1. However although he was top of the timesheets for almost the entire session, in the end the Repsol Honda Team rider was third in Q1, just a tenth off Q2, and will start both races in thirteenth position.

His Repsol Honda Team teammate, Joan Mir, was not able to adapt as well to the changing track conditions, which were wet at the start and gradually dried out. Mir finished nineteenth in Free Practice and finally placed in eighth position in Q1, which means he will occupy eighteenth on the starting grid.

At 3:00 p.m. local time, the Sprint race takes place at Phillip Island.
