Enea Bastianini became a first-time Sprint race winner at Silverstone on Saturday. The Italian beat Jorge Martín and Aleix Espargaró in an accident-filled contest.

Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezzechi crashed on the first corner. At the front, Martín took the lead, with Bastianini, Aleix Espargaró and Bagnaia behind him. When Marc Márquez moved to the front of that group, Bagnaia fell and the leading trio began the fight for victory.
Bastianini stretched his advantage and secured the victory ahead of Martín and Espargaró. Behind them, Márquez suffered a crash, giving up fourth and fifth positions to Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta.
The points positions were completed by Álex Márquez, Jack Miller, Maverick Viñales and Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Positive sprint for Repsol Honda

A good Saturday sprint for the two Repsol Honda riders at Silverstone saw both Luca Marini and Joan Mir make a great start and battle for positions in the Top 15.
Marini, who started nineteenth, was able to ride for much of the race in fifteenth position and competed well, as he did at the last Grand Prix at Sachsenring. Mir was also with him, able to ride with his teammate and the rest of his rivals in the group fighting to achieve 12th place.
Tomorrow’s long race, with the special livery for the 75th Anniversary of MotoGP, will start at 2:00 p.m. at Silverstone.

Statements

Joan Mir

“A tricky race where we avoided doing any mistakes. I was able to stay with the other Honda riders and understand the differences we have between us. We’re staying positive and looking for the future, tomorrow we will looking for some small changes again to maximise our performance. Of course we will get one upgrade already for Sunday, the incredible livery from 1983.”

Luca Marini

“We had a positive day. My Qualifying was quite good, I could have gone a bit faster in the last sector but happy to see our performance is growing. Each race we’ve made a little step, but there’s still work to do – especially on our race pace. To be consistent for the whole race is something we need to look at, I feel Zarco has an advantage here compared to us so there is room to improve. Looking forward to tomorrow and wearing the special colours again, it will be a real treat!”
