Bagnaia leads the first day of training in Assen.

Dutch GP Practice Results

Pecco Bagnaia made a great start to the weekend at the historic Assen circuit, where the MotoGP World Championship hosted the first day of the eighth round of the season on Friday. The current World Champion picked up from where he left off before the break: Top of the timesheets. Bagnaia, who won the last race held in Italy, was the fastest both in the first free practice session and in the afternoon practice, which determined the ten drivers who go directly into Q2.

Behind him were Maverick Viñales, Álex Márquez, Aleix Espargaró, Jorge Martín, Marc Márquez, Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, Raúl Fernández and Franco Morbidelli.

First day of adaptation for Repsol Honda riders

Joan Mir and Luca Marini started working on modifications to their Honda RC213Vs at Assen. The Spaniard improved by almost a second from the first to the second session, although it was not enough to get close to the Top 10 and direct access to Q2. Mir stopped the clock at 1:33.355, two seconds off the top spot, and was 22nd overall.

Marini dropped his best time by half a second from morning to afternoon, but was some way off the improvements made by the rest of the grid. He set a 1:33.561 to place 23rd.

On Sunday, the second day of practice and first race of the weekend will be held.

Statements

Joan Mir

“The crash today upset our plan a bit, I was unharmed, but the second bike was not setup like the first, so it was very difficult to push for a lap at the end. I had just put in a new tyre to push for a time in the top ten when I fell. We did a lot of work in the morning which was good and were able to make more steps in the afternoon before the fall. Tomorrow there’s work to do if we want to achieve our full potential but everyone is pushing together.”

Luca Marini

“Today we worked on taking the maximum out of our package, looking to improve with adjustments. I was aiming for more because the gap is a bit big, but everyone here is very fast this weekend. We need to make a step tomorrow and the team have already begun working so I am sure we can do it. Our feeling is good, we just need more performance. We are making progress, as are the others, so we have to look for a big step.”
