Win for Martín in Le Mans Sprint Race

French GP Sprint Race results

Jorge Martín continued to dominate in MotoGP on Saturday as, after achieving pole position, he took victory in the Sprint Race. Together with him, the podium was rounded off by Marc Márquez, coming back from thirteenth position, and Maverick Viñales.

Enea Bastianini, Aleix Espargaró, Pedro Acosta, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Jack Miller and Raúl Fernández completed the points.

After another Sprint Race win, Martín once again extends his lead in the overall standings, to 28points over Enea Bastianini.

On Sunday at 2pm CEST, the pair will take part in the main race of the French Grand Prix.

Difficult race for Mir and Marini

Repsol Honda team riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini had a tough Saturday at Le Mans. Mir, who started from eighteenth position, did not make a good start and lost several positions on the opening corners. Just a few laps later, the 2020 MotoGP World Champion crashed out of the contest.

Marini tried to keep up the pace and improve his feeling. In a race that saw three crashes and one retirement, the Italian managed to complete the distance and cross the finish line eighteenth.

Statements

Joan Mir

“From the start we could feel that there wasn’t something right with the rear and we were lacking a lot of grip. We need to check everything well to understand the problem and improve it tomorrow. It’s a shame because it meant our race was over before it began and I fell because of this problem. A shame because I think we could have been fighting up with Zarco to be close him and even the top ten. This is the target for tomorrow because I am confident we can find a solution.”

Luca Marini

“There are always positives to take from every lap you make. We got more data and learned a few things to improve for Sunday. It’s clear what we are missing with the current package that we have, so we keep on working until something comes to change that. For tomorrow we will try to do another small change with the bike to improve the front feeling. I am confident Honda will bring the things that we need soon.”
