In a quick turnaround after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix held last week in Misano, the MotoGP World Championship traversed the globe to kick off the Indonesian Grand Prix. On the first day of the event, Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martín continued in the same positions they left off last Sunday, topping the timesheets in first and second position, respectively.
Third was Franco Morbidelli, followed by Pecco Bagnaia, Marco Bezzechi, Fabio Quartararo, Marc Márquez, Pedro Acosta, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Maverick Viñales.
Step forward for Luca Marini in Mandalika
Friday was a positive day for Repsol Honda Team rider Luca Marini, who was ninth in the first free practice session and finished the day in a solid twelfth place. After coming close to making it into Q2, with his Honda performing well at the circuit, the Italian rider’s goal will be to improve his feeling with the front tyre for qualifying and the sprint race on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Joan Mir also managed to maintain a steady pace on the Indonesian circuit. However, the Spaniard was unable to close the day in Q2, finishing in nineteenth position.

Statements
Joan Mir
“Everything we had from the Misano Test is also working here which is a very different kind of track, especially in terms of grip. This is a positive because it proves we are going in the correct direction and now we can keep it as our base. I felt quite good, especially with the medium and over longer rungs. We couldn’t quite put together a perfect lap to close the distance to the others as we have some vibrations as in Misano, but I am confident we can improve this.”
Luca Marini
“It was a good day today and we were able to confirm that all the upgrades from Misano are also working well here. This was the first job we had to do. We now need to focus on improving the feeling with the front, but overall, it was a very positive day. Mandalika is a circuit I like a lot and the work we have been doing with the Honda has helped me to ride in a better way and be closer to the front. It’s clear we have made a step as we were less than a tenth from the top ten. We keep working for even more tomorrow, it’s satisfying to see us make this step after our work in the first half of the year.”
