2024 Qatar GP Results

The Qatar Grand Prix race saw a return to winning ways for Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) in the season opener. With his first position, the Italian breaks the Gresini team’s winning streak at Lusail  -Bastianini in 2022 and Di Giannantonio in 2023. Brad Binder and Jorge Martín rounded out the podium positions.

The Top 10 was completed by Marc Márquez, Enea Bastianini, Álex Márquez, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Aleix Espargaró, Pedro Acosta and Maverick Viñales.

Bagnaia is the series leader with 29 points, ahead of Jorge Martín who is second in the championship.

The next stop of the championship will be in Portimao for the Portuguese Grand Prix from March 22 to 24.

Sunday of ups and downs for Repsol Honda Team

After a tough sprint race, the Repsol Honda Team riders took to the track for the Grand Prix proper with the intention of making up positions and accumulating kilometres to help the development of the RC213V.

Joan Mir got a good start from the sixth row on the grid, managing to climb places until he was close to the Top 10. As the laps went by, the Spaniard consolidated a good pace in his group and finished 13th, giving him his first three points of the season.

Luca Marini was not able to solve the problems that he had suffered on Saturday, and  came home in twentieth position. The Repsol Honda Team rider will focus on understanding the Honda’s weak points to obtain a better performance in two weeks’ time in Portimao.

Statements

Joan Mir

“We made a great race, honestly. I started well and recovered a lot of positions straight away. It’s been a long time since I was able to enjoy riding like that, so that is really positive. Starting at the back isn’t easy, but we made good ground to be with Fabio for most of the race. In the last five laps I felt like I had a little bit more than Quartararo, so I overtook him and made a gap of one second. Then in the last two laps we dropped a lot, and we lost some positions, which isn’t ideal. But still we are pleased with everything we have done and always learning.”

Luca Marini

“It’s encouraging to see the other Honda riders, and especially Mir, fighting for good positions. For us, it has been a continuation of our weekend today and we had a small issue which limited us in the race. I was able to understand a lot of things during the race which is very important, especially when I realized Miller was behind – I let him pass to study a little bit what he was doing. I think this will help us to understand more and more, to take some positives. We need time to keep trying things and getting more comfortable.”
