Pole position at Misano went to ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia, who dominated on home soil throughout Q2. The Italian thus claimed his second pole position of the season. Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezzecchi complete an all-Italian front row.
Q1 saw a fight for the top two, with Brad Binder, Alex Marquez, the Espargaro brothers and Fabio Di Giannantonio involved. Alex Marquez and Binder were the riders who were made the cut to contest Q2.
Bagnaia set an initial 01:30.581, which he followed up with a 01:30.304 after a pit stop to take pole. Morbidelli moved up to P2 and Bezzecchi to P3 to complete the front row.
Jorge Martín was fourth, Pedro Acosta fifth and Binder sixth. Álex Márquez, Enea Bastianini, Marc Márquez (with a crash), Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Viñales and Jack Miller round off the front four rows at Misano.
The sprint race will take place on Saturday at 3pm (CEST).
Atypical Q1 for Repsol Honda
As had occured on Friday, the Repsol Honda Team had just one rider available on Saturday at the San Marino Grand Prix. Despite Joan Mir’s stomach complaint improving overnight, he was declared unfit to rejoin the rest of the premier class riders on track.
Luca Marini was on his own, and the Italian achieved 21st place in the second morning free practice session, with a best time of 01:32.550, close to the time he set on Friday afternoon in Practice.
In Q1, he consolidated 21st position on the grid with a best time of 01:31.923, his fastest lap of the entire weekend so far.
