The second half of the MotoGP season got underway at Silverstone with the first practice sessions for the British Grand Prix. Jorge Martín was the fastest man of the day after setting the best time in Friday’s afternoon practice.
It was an entertaining session with constant changes between the Top 10 positions, especially in the final minutes, when several riders took turns in first position. Finally, as being the only riders to go under 1:58, Jorge Martín and Aleix Espargaró led the timesheets.
Apart from the two Spanish riders, Pecco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini, Jack Miller, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Brad Binder, Maverick Viñales, Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Márquez will also go directly into Q2.
Repsol Honda make good progress
Repsol Honda returned to work with better feelings in the afternoon than in the morning. So much so that Luca Marini and Joan Mir improved their best times in FP1 by almost a second in practice.
The Italian rider, 19th in the afternoon session, set a 1:59.644. His Repsol Honda teammate, Joan Mir, was 21st, one position better than in the morning, with a best final time of 2:00.277.
Saturday sees the second day of free practice and the first race of the weekend at Silverstone.

Statements
Joan Mir
“The time sheets are similar to the last races, and we are focusing on making the most of our current package before we get some more upgrades. In the recent rounds we have been trying some different things with the aim of taking two steps forward in the future. Each day we aim to make some steps forward and I think we are not as far as it seems in many of the areas. We keep on working and see what happens on Saturday.”
Luca Marini
“We’ve been able to continue what we were doing before the summer; I have made a big step with my riding style to suit the needs of the Honda and also the team are continuing to work to meet my needs. Like this we have been able to continue improving and now we are able to challenge the other RC213Vs more and more. I’m enjoying riding more and more and it’s easier to be fast. There is more to do, but the direction is continuing in the right way.”
