German GP Practice Results

The eighth round of the MotoGP World Championship, the German Grand Prix, began on Friday with the first two practice sessions, in which Maverick Viñales was the fastest in the premier class.
In a session that featured heavy crashes for Marc Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, only two other riders managed to break the 1:20 mark: Jorge Martín and Miguel Oliveira. The other riders to go directly into Q2 are Álex Márquez, Pecco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini, Franco Morbidelli, Pedro Acosta, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Brad Binder.

Step forward for Luca Marini

In the Repsol Honda Team garage, the setup work continued in Germany. Luca Marini managed to improve by a second and a half between the first and second sessions, closing the day in 17th with a 1:20.868.
Teammate Joan Mir was 21st in the first session, but a crash at the beginning of the afternoon delayed his work and he finished the day just 7 tenths better than in the morning, with a time of 1:21.847. He was 22nd overall on the timesheets.

Saturday, the second day of practice and first race of the weekend will be held.

Statements

Joan Mir

“Honestly today was a really tough day for us, we went the wrong way with the setting – it was a risk that unfortunately didn’t pay off. In the afternoon we found a better setup, but I had a crash when I started to really push, and this upset the final part of practice. The objective for tomorrow is to be more competitive, to at least be with the other Honda riders and restart what we were doing at the start of the year in races.”

Luca Marini

“We’ve been able to make a good step today compared to where we started, but there’s still more work to do. There was a lot of wind today which made everything quite tricky, you have to stay really focused every lap. Corner entry is an area that we can still make some improvements in, so this will be one of the focuses for tomorrow.”
