Marc Márquez will start the Aragon Grand Prix from pole position, having demonstrated his superiority at MotorLand in the four sessions held so far at the track. He dominated Q2, going almost a second quicker than his nearest rival. Pedro Acosta and Pecco Bagnaia closed off the Top 3 on the grid, both having briefly held the top spot during the session.
With the entry of a KTM and a GasGas ahead of up to three Ducati in Q1, Q2 looked to be a very interesting race but with one favourite: Marc Márquez. Q2 saw an early crash for Jorge Martín, who worked against the clock with his second bike to earn fourth place.
Álex Márquez placed fifth and Franco Morbidelli sixth, rounding off the front two rows. Johann Zarco, on the Honda, finished in a creditable P10.
The sprint race on the Teruel track will take place at 15:00 (CEST).
Difficult Q1 for Repsol Honda at MotorLand
Unpredictable weather conditions were the order of the morning on the second day in Aragon. FP2 was held in mixed conditions due to drainage difficulties with the new asphalt at MotorLand. It was not a bad session for the Repsol Honda riders, with Joan Mir fourteenth, as he had been in FP1 on Friday. Luca Marini improved his time in the final moments and finished nineteenth.
Marini and Mir went out to Q1 with the aim of springing a surprise, but with the track now dry and the sun shining, it was Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta who managed to secure the available places in Q2.
Marini was the fastest of the Repsol Honda pair in Q1, posting his best time of 1:49.802 on his last flying lap. He will start from 20th on the grid.
Mir also lowered his time just before taking the chequered flag, with a 1:50.120, but was unable to complete a perfect lap and will take off from 22nd.
