The Australian Grand Prix showed the ambition and nonconformity that have made Marc Márquez one of the most successful riders of all time. His 55th victory in the premier class allowed him to pass legend Mick Doohan for race wins. Doohan was the dominant force of 90s racing, representing Repsol as Márquez does now.
With the rider and manufacturers titles already decided, Márquez now seeks a new stimulus to continue winning, and yesterday in Australia he picked up a victory that makes him the most successful rider in Honda’s history, ahead of the 54 victories by Mick Doohan -in 500cc- and Dani Pedrosa -in all classes. It was his 81st triumph overall, which brings him closer to the 90 held by Ángel Nieto, third on a list led by Giacomo Agostini -122- followed by Valentino Rossi -115.
The next MotoGP World Championship event will take place this weekend in Malaysia, and is the penultimate round of the 2019 season.
