Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa have already arrived in Sepang, where today they were part of a workshop promoted by Repsol Malaysia to promote the importance of motorcycle safety. The Repsol Honda Team riders explained, among other concepts, the importance of safety equipment, riding safely and adapting speed to different types of road and traffic.

Thirty students from different schools in the Sepang district were in attendance and received instructions from Márquez and Pedrosa on a test track. Practice of cornering and braking safely took place in an area marked with cones. At the end of the event, the thirty boys and girls received a helmet as a gift. Repsol donated mopeds to two of them from disadvantaged families. The scooters are a fundamental means of transport in the daily life of tens of thousands of Malays.

The celebration of this event is the result of Repsol Malaysia’s commitment to the local population, after learning of the accident rate on Malaysian highways which ranks as the third highest in the world. The objective of this program, in place since 2013 and which has already benefited 11,000 students, is to alleviate the serious problem posed by traffic accidents. It is carried out in collaboration with different agencies in the country such as the Department of Education and the police.

Repsol has had a presence in Malaysia since 2011, supplying lubricants to a variety of local manufacturing industries. In May 2015, Repsol expanded its presence in the Asia-Pacific region to include the Upstream E&P sector with operations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia and Papua New Guinea.

As a professional rider, safety is always a priority, both on the road and on the track. These workshops are very positive initiatives for raising awareness among everyone, especially the younger generations. Actions as simple as wearing a helmet or knowing how to look into the distance while riding to anticipate what might happen on the road, saves lives and prevent accidents.

Being able to pass on part of our knowledge to young people is very nice, because something we have always worked on in competition is increasing safety. Today we had the opportunity to give some first-hand advice to people who have just obtained a rider’s license, and it’s a perfect way to transmit our experience and help improve road safety.
