Qatar GP Qualifying Results

The Qatar Grand Prix saw an intense first Saturday morning for the premier class riders. After the change of sessions yesterday, the direct entrants into Q2 were decided just before the start of the qualifying session.

The afternoon in Lusail began with record times for most of the riders. The best was set by Jorge Martín (Ducati), taking pole with a 1:50.789. Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) and Enea Bastianini (Ducati) round off the front row.

The Top 10 was completed by Brad Binder (KTM), Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati), Marc Márquez (Ducati), Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati), Pedro Acosta (GasGas), Álex Márquez (Ducati) and Maverick Viñales (Aprilia).

The 11-lap sprint race takes place on Saturday afternoon at 5pm local time.

Intense morning in Qatar for Joan Mir and Luca Marini

Facing this atypical Saturday, both Repsol Honda Team riders were forced to go through Q1 after failing to finish among the Top 10 in the morning practice.

Joan Mir came close to making the cut on several occasions, but a small crash in the final stages of Q1 prevented him from improving his time and moving on to Q2, as he placed seventh. With this result, he will start from seventeenth place, both in the sprint race and in the GP itself.

Luca Marini continues working on his adaptation to the Honda in his first Grand Prix with the team. Despite following a strategy with which he was satisfied on Friday, the Repsol Honda team rider wasn’t able to improve his time and move into the fight for pole. With eleventh position, he will start both races from the last row of the grid.
