Pecco Bagnaia was the winner of the Emilia Romagna GP sprint race, continuing a successful weekend for the Italian. He started from pole position and managed to reel in rival Jorge Martín with a series of fast laps, before closing him down completely and passing him with six laps to go, after his rival ran wide.
Martín had taken the lead early and extended an advantage, but eventually placed second. Enea Bastianini was unable to keep up with the two title contenders, but finished in third position to complete the rostrum.
Marc Márquez, riding a little further back, moved up the order for fourth place, whilst Pedro Acosta and early challenger for the lead Brad Binder finished behind him.
The Top 10 was completed by Fabio Quartararo, Marco Bezzecchi, Franco Morbidelli and Maverick Viñales. Sunday’s Emilia Romagna GP race will take place at 1pm (CEST).
Bittersweet sprint for Repsol Honda
Joan Mir and Luca Marini took off from 15th and 16th position on the grid, respectively. After a clean start, they fought with Johann Zarco to get into the points, as part of a three-man group. The Repsol Honda teammates rode together as a tandem, and were the best placed Hondas in the race for much of the duration.
With 3 laps to go, Mir was penalised with a Long Lap for exceeding the track limits. He served the sanction on the last lap, leading him to finish in last position. Marini continued to fight with Zarco and with Raúl Fernández, concluding the sprint race 16th.

“En general ha sido un día positivo en el que hemos encontrado algo diferente. Por la mañana y en la Q1 hemos dado un buen paso adelante, no solo con la vuelta rápida sino también con el ritmo general. En mi segunda salida de la Q1 creo que podíamos haber conseguido un poco más y esperaba más después de ver lo fuertes que éramos. Aún así, estoy satisfecho por las sensaciones que he tenido. Sin embargo, no podemos estar contentos con la carrera al sprint. La vibración que teníamos era muy alta y se me ha impuesto la sanción por salirme en la curva 11. Tenemos que comprobarlo todo muy bien para que esto no vuelva a ocurrir. He terminado la sprint para obtener más datos sobre esta situación”.

“Acabar decimoquintos en la sesión clasificatoria es un buen paso para nosotros, ha sido un sábado positivo en general. En la sprint, he tenido un susto en la curva ocho y me he abierto mucho. He perdido un segundo y luego me han adelantado los demás. Tenemos que analizar la primera vuelta de la carrera porque creo que podemos encontrar algo más, sobre todo aprovechando al máximo el neumático trasero. El nuevo paquete ha mejorado nuestra entrada en curva y nuestros giros, lo cual es positivo. Tenemos que centrarnos en esto y no en las pequeñas cosas que pueden suceder durante una carrera. Estoy satisfecho con el trabajo que están haciendo los japoneses”.
