Pole position and record for Jorge Martín at Phillip Island
The second day of practice at Phillip Island has decided the starting grid for today’s race and tomorrow’s sprint race. The fastest rider in Q2 was Jorge Martin, who clocked a time of 1:27.246 thousandths of a second, breaking the track record by more than half a second. The Spaniard will share the front row with Brad Binder and World Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia.
The second row will be shared by Aleix Espargaró, Johann Zarco and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Marc Márquez, Jack Miller and Maverick Viñales will start from row three, ahead of Marco Bezzechi, Pol Espargaró and Enea Bastianini on the fourth row.
Marc Márquez and Joan Mir take a step forward
In the Repsol Honda pit box both riders took a step forward today. After an FP2 in which Marc Márquez was second and Joan Mir, thirteenth, both had to contest Q1 after yesterday’s practice session results. In the first 15 minutes against the clock, Marc Márquez managed to take one of the two places that give access to Q2, while Joan Mir finished in sixteenth position.
In Q2, Marc Márquez finished in seventh position, seven tenths off pole position. In less than 3 hours, the race of the Australian Grand Prix.
