There was a pole position and circuit record for Pecco Bagnaia at the Emilia Romagna GP, with a 1:30:031 lap. The Italian achieved his twentieth pole on his 100th MotoGP appearance. Jorge Martín and Enea Bastianini completed the front row of the grid.
FP2 was topped by Pedro Acosta, closely followed by Fabio Quartararo. Reigning MotoGP World Champion Bagnaia was third. A drop in temperature at the start of the qualifying session caused some crashes, like the one of Álex Márquez in the Q1 that prevented him to go through Q2.
Already into the Q2, Jorge Martín assured him first row with a 1:30.245. Bagnaia clocked his 1:30.031 lap late on, ousting Martín from the top spot by 0.214 tenths of a second. The hidden Bastianini rounded off the front row.
On Row 2, the KTM of Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta are joined by Marco Bezzecchi, while Marc Márquez crashed during the session and did not have enough time to improve his time with his second bike. He will start from seventh on the grid.
The Sprint race will take place at 3pm (CEST) on Saturday.
Step forward for the Repsol Honda Team
Consistent good work on Friday paid off for Joan Mir and Luca Marini on the second day of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, as they continued to prepare for the two races at World Misano Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
Mir took 16th in the second Free Practice, held on Saturday morning. He upped his pace and was able to close the gap to the frontrunners, ending up less than a second off the top spot. In Q1, he was initially in the upper reaches of the timesheets, but his 1:31.350 fell just short of making the cut and the #36 will start the Grand Prix in 16th place.
Marini was 17th in FP2, but also could not make it into Q2. However, his 1:31.428 in Q1 put him as the best placed Honda, so the #10 will start his latest home Grand Prix in 15th position.
