Five days after the conclusion of the Aragon Grand Prix, the MotoGP World Championship began another round this Friday. The fastest rider on the first day of the San Marino Grand Prix was ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia, followed by fellow title challengers Marc Márquez and Jorge Martín.
Pedro Acosta had led the way for a good part of the Practice alongside Marc Márquez. The Spanish rider, however, crashed in the last few minutes, which almost left him out of direct passage to Q2. With the rest of the Ducati and KTM riders fighting for the Top 10 positions.
With just two minutes ahead of Practice, Aleix Espargaró lost control of his Aprilia at turn 2, which resulted in several laps being cancelled due to the presence of yellow flags. Even so, the final flying lap was completed for all the riders and Franco Morbidelli and Marc Márquez secured their places in Q2 in extremis.
Accompanying the Top 3, Franco Morbidelli, Enea Bastianini, Pedro Acosta, Marco Bezzecchi, Maverick Viñales, Fabio Quartararo and Jack Miller go directly into Q2.
First day at home for Luca Marini
Repsol Honda were a man down on Friday, due to a bout of gastroenteritis for Joan Mir. Luca Marini was thus the only rider for the team on the opening day.
Marini’s best time of 01:32.824 put him 18th in the morning Free Practice, just one second behind Jorge Martín‘s top time. In the afternoon, he was 23rd albeit able to lower his morning time and clock a 01:32.309.
Mir is expected to return to action for FP2 on Saturday in San Marino, having felt unwell since Thursday.
The second day of free practice will take place at Misano on Saturday, starting at 10:10 a.m. (CEST), in addition to the two qualifying sessions and the first Sprint Race at 3:00 p.m. (CEST).

Statements
Luca Marini
«I expected more from Friday here and we struggled a bit more than what I had hoped. The test we did here before was not to prepare for this race, so we are not starting with some sort of big advantage. The condition of the circuit is very good, it’s very fast but we need to check the data on our side to make some improvements. Our distance on race pace is not far but we still need to find some time on the time attack. I hope Mir is feeling better tomorrow.»
