Toni Bou was crowned TrialGP World Champion for the 14th time on Saturday, thanks to a victory in the opening race of the Italian GP. He is now a 28-time World Champion, including his 14 honours in indoor competition. He has claimed a total of 5 wins, 1 second place and 1 third place in 2020, with the season finale taking place on Sunday.
In a difficult year, in which a global pandemic forced the original calendar to be shortened and in which Bou suffered an arm injury at the first round, the Repsol Honda Team rider overcame all adversities to clinch the title.
The Spaniard has been the dominant force in trial competition since his first title in 2007. His latest honour consolidates and extends the Repsol Honda Team’s reign in the discipline over the last fourteen years.
His teammate, Japanese rider Takahisa Fujinami, finished in a commendable fourth position in Race 1. Fujinami is now fifth in the overall standings.
The last race of the 2020 World Championship takes place tomorrow at La Battú.

“I really did not expect to win the title today. It was a very tight trial, like all of the races this year, and that makes it very easy to drop from first to seventh, so we could not make any mistakes. I am very happy with this title, and even more so as this year has been so strange, with many training sessions and few races. We have won both titles, indoor and outdoor, so I’m very happy. Now we have to enjoy the occasion and celebrate”.
“Today went quite well. I could have been on the podium, as I did quite well during the first and second laps. In the end, on the third lap I made some mistakes on some zones and that made me finish fourth. In terms of the championship, I have taken a step forward and I hope I can finish well in the overall standings tomorrow. What can I say about Toni? It’s incredible what he does, and I can only congratulate him and the whole team”.
